A Very Colorful Home

When decorator Ann Pyne's (of McMillen Inc.) mother decided to redo her Southampton home, she called on Ann to help her pull it all together.  Ann's mother, renowned decorator, Betty Sherrill, had lived in the house for many years and wanted a fresh and colorful new scheme!

Collaborating on the design, incorporating old and new, adding fresh fabrics and colors has produced a comfortable, colorful and cosy home for Mrs. Sherrill to enjoy with her family, friends and beautiful pets, Louis Quatorze and Marie Antoinette.

Enjoy!

Love, love, love this 1960s fibreglass Alberto Bazzani draped coffee table.
The French 1950s vase is referred to as 'the brain'.
And Louis Quatorze and Marie Antoinette are perfect accessories to this colorful room!

The Brunschwig & Fils fabric on the sofa reflects Sherrill's love of animal prints.

Sheepskin rugs placed throughout.
Don't you love the swan planter?
The daffodils on the mantel are from Mrs. Sherrill's garden of 50,000 daffodils!

The back hallway with painted floors, victorian hatrack and ceramic garden stool.
And another sheepskin!

Bronze table and beautiful trompe l'oeil trellis on walls.

Shell console table in foyer.

Color scheme taken from Zoffany wall fabric 'Snow Blossom' for Mrs. Sherrill's bedroom.

Nantucket Charmer

This Nantucket cottage was built in the mid 1980s for the three Wathne sisters of Iceland who own a line of luxury sportswear known as 'la vie sportive'.

The 4,200 sq. ft. house was commissioned for them and includes four master suites - one for each of the sisters and the fourth one usually occupied by their mother, who liked to travel with them.

The sisters all had canopy beds which were handpainted from their own designs.  And each of the sisters' suites had matching dog beds so their two teacup poodles and little maltese could rotate among the suites at will.

I'm using the past tense because this house was sold by the Wathnes in 2001.

In the living room, you will notice a rabbit theme and what appears to be pink accents.  The cushions that appear to be pink are actually red and white pinstripes.  There is no pink in the room, despite appearances.

On the mantel in one of the master suites is a row of terns.......a nod to the name of the house 'Three Terns'.

Hope you enjoy this cottage as much as I did when I first saw it in Architectural Digest years ago.  I still love it to this day and the classic interiors are as inviting now as they were then.

Enjoy!

Fabulous French Country

Who can get enough of Charles Faudree's charming decor......he is a true master of french country!  So masterful with his placement of objects.......each of his rooms has a lot to enjoy as your eye scans the picture as a whole, but it never looks cluttered to me.  Perhaps because every object is so well chosen, collectible and part of a collection........every item is appreciated and his color sense never fails!

The rooms below are from different homes he has decorated over his career.

Enjoy!

Love this room!

The other side of the twin beds

Cosy!

One of his very elegant rooms!

One of his more minimal looks!

So cosy and inviting

What a great mix!

What charm!

English Country Decorating

This house is the epitome of English country living........to the manor born, mind you!

Imagine returning to this home every day and having these 5 little faces greeting you......or curling up by the fire with a favorite book......or cooking dinner in this kitchen..........surrounded by all the things you love......including a large basket on the kitchen table to place one of your pet chickens in while you putter about.

This is a larger version of the English cottage look of yesterday.......same details, but larger rooms......wonderful colors, chintz fabrics, comfy furniture, lots of wall art, plates, lamps, area rugs......and still cozy despite the size of the rooms.....because the homeowner has surrounded herself with the things she loved!

As a passionate Anglophile, this is my cup of tea!
